The Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux have been rivals since the day the two badges hit the streets. Admittedly, the price and performance figures of these two trims are somewhat mismatched but we thought we’d pair them off against one another regardless, to see the difference in performance.
The Ford Ranger 2,0 SiT 4×4 XLT FX4 sports the brand’s turbodiesel 2,0-litre four-pot mill with a power output of 132 kW and 420 N.m of torque. This is sent to the 4×4 system via a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Toyota Hilux 2,4 GD-6 4×4 Raider sport the brand’s slightly older turbodiesel 2,4-litre four-cylinder unit with a power output of 110 kW and 400 N.m of torque. This uses a six-speed automatic to transmit power to the 4×4 system.
Based on our test figures, the Ford Ranger sprints from 0-100 km/h in 11,47 seconds while the Toyota Hilux, 12,25 seconds. This does give the Ranger a bit of an edge in this pair-up but as we all know, anything can happen in a drag race.
