While details remain scarce, the latest glimpse offers insight into the car’s chassis dynamics and intriguingly, its simulated exhaust note. Based on the BMW i4 platform, the electric BMW M3 prototype is rumoured to pack a punch, with four electric motors potentially generating up to a staggering 745 kW. This power output promises performance that could rival, or even surpass its petrol-powered predecessors.
The new video takes viewers behind the scenes to BMW’s winter test centre in Arjeplog, Sweden, located within the Arctic Circle. Here, engineers are rigorously evaluating the electric M3’s chassis dynamics in the challenging icy conditions. The focus on handling and control suggests that BMW is determined to maintain the M3’s renowned driver engagement, even in its electric guise.
Perhaps the most captivating element of the teaser is the inclusion of the electric M3’s synthesized exhaust sound. Towards the end of the video, viewers are placed inside the cabin during an acceleration run, where the simulated engine noise is clearly audible. While the clip cuts short, leaving the full range of the soundscape a mystery, it confirms BMW’s intention to incorporate an aural experience into the electric BMW M3.

This move aligns with previous statements from BMW’s M division regarding simulated gearing and the inclusion of paddle shifters on the steering wheel. It appears the automaker is exploring ways to replicate the traditional feel of a high-performance M car, even in an electric vehicle. Whether enthusiasts embrace or reject this artificial augmentation of the driving experience remains to be seen.
As development progresses, more details about its performance, range, and overall driving character are expected to emerge. For now, we’re left to dissect the snippets provided and speculate on the future of the iconic M3 badge.
