Wake up Cape Town!
This dashcam video footage from an emergency response vehicle hurriedly attempting to navigate De Waal Drive, above Cape Town CBD, highlights some of the worst examples of inattentive driving we’ve seen in a long time. While it’s widely accepted Cape Town is home to some of the worst drivers in the country (even if the Ford Figo has a GP plate) this level of ignorance is difficult to swallow.
What if it was your loved one this emergency response vehicle was racing to get to?!

The point being, no matter what you think of the blue and red light brigade (and, let’s face it, tales of abuse of power have become quite alarming) the law states you do your utmost to clear a path for them. The point of the sirens is to let you know they are fast approaching. That said, there shouldn’t be a time when these vehicles are filling your mirrors before you try and move.
