The new Audi S3 Sportback is no more powerful than the model it replaces. But is it any quicker in a straight line?

Well, the folks over at CarWow decided to find out, lining up the latest version alongside a 2017 model for a drag race in the damp.

As a reminder, both models employ the VW Group’s familiar turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 228 kW and 400 N.m. Drive is directed to all four corners via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in each case.

Interestingly, however, the new model is a full 130 kg heavier than the old one (according to CarWow’s figures, anyway). It also features the (soundtrack-dulling) petrol particulate filter required in Europe.
