Just how quick is the new Volkswagen Golf 8 R? Well, the folks over at CarWow have found out by pitting the newcomer against three other all-paw German hot hatches.
Yes, the Golf 8 R lines up to do battle with the Audi S3 Sportback, BMW M135i xDrive and Mercedes-AMG A35.
Each of the four contenders employs a turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. The Golf R offers 235 kW/420 N.m, while the S3 Sportback makes 228 kW/400 N.m. The M135i and A35, meanwhile, both generate 225 kW, with the former boasting 450 N.m and the latter some 400 N.m.
