By modern standards the Nurburgring Nordschleife is still a very dangerous race track. That danger, however, mostly applies to the racers taking on this hugely complicated track. This past weekend, however, things got a bit more real for spectators at the VLN Endurance Series event.
Watch as the No.23 Nissan GT-R Nismo driven by Jann Mardenborough takes off at the Flugplatz section of the track before crashing though the catchment fence and into a row of spectators, killing one person and injuring many more.
In the wake of this tragic incident Nismo has released the following statement: “Today’s events have been a tragedy. We are all deeply shocked and saddened by these events and our immediate thoughts go to the deceased, those injured and their families and friends. The team is fully co-operating with the race organisers to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into this incident.”
