While reports remain sketchy about what actually provoked this unfortunate incident, what we can see from this helmetcam footage is the driver of the black Range Rover losing his cool during an altercation with a group of bikers in New York City.
In frantically trying to escape the situation the driver of the Range Rover (with his wife and young child in the car) can clearly be seen riding over a couple of the bikers and their motorbikes before attempting to flee the scene. A group of bikers then sets about chasing the black SUV until it is forced to come to a halt due to traffic. The video ends as one of the furious rider uses his helmet to smash the driver’s side window.
[Update] A police spokesman reported to UK tabloid Daily Mail that a man in his 30s (the driver) was treated in hospital for lacerations to his face and body, while, contrary to comments on various social networks, no one else was injured. A full investigation is under way.
[Update 2] The New York Times has reported that the biker who originally brake checked the Range Rover suffered a broken leg during the altercation and that the 33-year-old driver of the Range Rover has since been released from hospital. No charges have been laid as yet.
[Update 3] The NYPD has confirmed that the driver of the Range Rover, Alexian Lien, did make a call to the police during the altercation.
