A new advertisement for the Audi R8 V10 Plus has been banned by an advertising watchdog in the United Kingdom.
The commercial was created by advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty and features a close-up of an eyeball, with the pupils contracting and dilating as the V10 supercar thunders through the gears in a tunnel.
According to AutoExpress, the ban imposed by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) was prompted by a single viewer complaining that the advert was “irresponsible”.
The ASA released a statement saying that the commercial breached its code due to the “irresponsible depiction of speed”.
“We considered that viewers would interpret the changes in pupil size as an emotional response to the movement of the car, as represented by the sounds that were audible during the eye sequence,” the ASA said.
