One of the things, as a driver, that you have to get used to when behind the wheel of a hybrid or all-electric vehicle is the fact that, while in battery mode, there obviously aren’t any engine sounds being emitted out of the exhaust tailpipes. It’s one of the things that petrolheads around the world are quite anxious about. How do you get your aural fix while piloting an electric car?
Apart from the concerns of drivers, there are also potential safety issues for other road users, particularly pedestrians, in not being able to hear a vehicle coming towards you. While it’s a problem that car company’s around the world will surely have to address going forward, a clever ad agency in Holland has spotted an opportunity to make the most of the silence associated with the electric scooters used by the Domino’s Pizza delivery boys.
Doubling as a warning to pedestrians and cyclists alike, a voice recording featuring lumpy engine notes mixed in with name dropping and the word “lekker”, is played out of the back of the scooters as they head out on each delivery.
We only hope the delivery boy has earplugs in underneath his helmet…
