Italian car manufacturer De Tomaso made waves in the automotive scene with its latest creation, the exclusive P72 supercar. Now, jump inside the cabin as that incredible V12 reverberates around a POV driving scenario. What a sound!
This remarkable vehicle, initially showcased as a development prototype with a V12 engine, is set to make waves. The production version, however, will feature a supercharged 5,0-litre V8 engine, cranking out approximately 522 kW of power and 824 N.m of torque, with an impressive 7 500 r/min redline. The power generated by this powerhouse will be harnessed by a six-speed manual gearbox, promising an exhilarating driving experience.
What sets this V8 engine apart is its promise to retain the essence of a naturally aspirated powerplant, even with the addition of a supercharger. De Tomaso has engineered it to deliver a smooth and linear power curve while preserving the timeless American V8 soundtrack. It’s worth noting that the design inspiration for the P72 harks back to the 1965 De Tomaso P70, which also sported a 5,0-litre Ford V8. In that case, performance upgrades were executed by the legendary engineer Carroll Shelby.
Although specific performance figures are yet to be officially confirmed, the recent release of video and audio clips of the P72’s roaring engine has only intensified the anticipation. The vehicle appears to offer a high-class interior, adopting a minimalist approach infused with visual and mechanical grandeur.
The video footage provides a glimpse of polished metal and leather, with quilted leather, intricate patterns and stitching throughout. Art Deco elements are seamlessly integrated into the design. Each instrument boasts its distinctive shining, circular surround, adding to the sense of luxury and craftsmanship. Even the six-speed manual gearbox exhibits a meticulous metal finish.
