Normally a game of ‘how did that Polo end up there’ followed by a comical photo of the affordable hatch in a strange location, a Volkswagen Golf GTI driver has now taken the spotlight after rolling his hot hatch on an embankment. Emerging from the wreck, the driver seems to be confronted by several citizens claiming his reckless driving was a danger to other road users and pedestrians. Despite the accident, the driver initially responds with belligerence before gathering his cool.
While no fatalities were mentioned in the video, there does seem to be an injured bystander seated on the embankment behind the car. It is uncertain if the driver, who claims he was driving in a hasty manner because he was in a rush, was arrested by Police following the incident but one thing is for certain; that damage won’t buff out. Considering the model costs in the region of R650 000, if it is insured, it will likely be a long and difficult process to receive a payout following this video.

The model in question seems to be a Golf GTI TCR which boasts some impressive performance capable of catapulting the hot hatch up to the claimed 200 km/h one bystander remarked the car was travelling at before the accident. Under the previously undamaged bonnet, the EA888 turbocharged 2,0-litre four-pot has been tuned to produce 213 kW and 380 N.m of torque – enabling the hatch to hit 264 km/h. Power is chanelled to the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and, thanks to several weight-saving measures, this model is 35 kg lighter than the GTI.
