There’ve been recent murmurings about a more hardcore version of the Range Rover Sport that’s in the pipeline at Coventry-based firm. Some substance has now been added the speculation with spy photographs of a camouflaged Sport recently snapped at the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
What the cladding doesn’t hide though, is the test mule’s redesigned bumpers, larger air intakes and fat quad tailpipes. Fortunately, this prototype lives up to its looks as the supercharged 5,0-litre V8 (which also does service in Jaguar’s XKR-S) under the Sport’s bonnet has been tweaked to deliver what we believe should be in excess of 400 kW.
To cope with the increase in power, the British engineers are said to be making revisions with the Range Rover Sport’s suspension system, as well as the control unit that manages the set-up. It’s also likely that bigger brakes will peek out from behind the Sport’s 21-inch alloys.
But just like the company’s entry level model, the Evoque, which was recently launched in Autobiography guise overseas, it’s likely that these upgrades form part of an optional kit that will be made available on the Range Rover Sport in the near-future, with some sources suggesting that we could see a signed-off production version of this model by the beginning of 2015.
