The Pininfarina Battista always sought to break new ground in the automotive world when it arrived in 2020. Named after Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina, who founded the Carrozzeria Pininfarina coachbuilding company in 1930, the all-electric hyper GT was designed and hand-built in very limited numbers at Pininfarina SpA under the watchful eye of Paolo Pininfarina, Battista’s grandson and current Pininfarina SpA Chairman. The Battista is currently the most powerful road-legal car ever designed and produced in Italy and has now smashed the 0-100 km/h sprint record.
During testing at the Dubai Autodrome, the Battista broke the record in the 0-100 km/h and 200 km/h sprints, showing just how extraordinary the Rimac-sourced electric powertrain is. Drumroll please… the electric hyper at managed to sprint from a dead stop to a 100 km/h in just 1,79 seconds. The Pininfarina also brakes just as well as it accelerates, so much so that it also set a record for the fastest-braking EV ever made, stopping from 100 km/h in just 31 meters.
The Rimac-sourced electric motors of the Pininfarina combine to produce an extraordinary 1 417 kW of power and 2 300 N.m of torque. What makes the Battista more impressive is that it can travel up to 476 km on a single charge, although this falls dramatically when repeatedly launching the hypercar. The weight distribution of the T-shaped 120 kWh battery pack is configured to optimise the Battista’s dynamic potential, with four motors independently distributing torque and power to each wheel, delivering all the benefits of modern torque vectoring. Cooling circuits and systems are based on five radiators.
The Battista is a typically elegant Pininfarina design. Renowned for being able to define their cars in just two lines, the Battista is no different, presenting a full carbon body that is curvaceous and sculptural with a cabin encased within sweeping glass. A single dynamic strip of LED light is proudly positioned at the front of the car between the Battista’s headlights.
To match the exterior seamlessly, the interior design has a strong, elegant ambience with a purity of purpose. The Pininfarina Battista is an ultra-high-performance car operating at a level never before experienced in the automotive world, so the interior is focused on the driver interface.
Each Pininfarina Battista is the result of more than 1 250 hours of skilled craftsmanship in Cambiano, Italy, where no more than 150 examples will be produced. With a total of 128 million possible interior combinations alone, the new hyper GT promises new levels of bespoke tailoring. Clients can choose from near-unlimited levels of interior colour schemes and finishes, in addition to the exterior colour combinations with bespoke detailing and exclusive aluminium exterior jewellery and alloy wheel designs.
The Battista’s performance targets are unachievable with an internal combustion engine. Sadly, electrification is today’s solution to unlocking a new experience and achieving unparalleled performance targets.
