Volkswagen South Africa has confirmed the upcoming new Taigo is scheduled to hit the local market in 2022.
The Wolfsburg-based firm released teaser images of the new model, which we suspect will be positioned as a coupé-style version of the popular T-Cross. Indeed, the new Taigo is set to be built alongside the T-Cross in Spain.
Interestingly, VW says the newcomer is actually “based on the successful Nivus model from Brazil” (running on the MQB A0 platform, then). It will likely feature the same dramatically sloping coupé-style roofline.
What else do we know? Well, Volkswagen says we can expect the new model to come with a “multitude of assistance systems and state-of-the-art connectivity”.
Power will come from a range of “economical” TSI engines (likely the same units offered in the T-Cross), while LED headlamps are set to ship standard. Judging by the teaser sketch above, the popular R-Line styling package will also be available.
Though VW has yet to talk pricing, you can expect the new Taigo to command a small premium over the T-Cross.
