Audi, like many of its premium rivals, is embarking on a rather ambitious electrification drive with its e-tron moniker. The German carmaker plans to have no less than 20 all-electric models on its showroom floors by the year 2025.
Since time is clearly of the essence here it comes as no surprise that barely a week after lifting the covers off of its Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron compact SUVs, the company is planning to reveal a new e-tron concept car that will presumably lead to a production model down the line.
Audi has posted this teaser image on its website, accompanied by no information apart from the fact that whatever it is will be revealed at the Shanghai Motor Show next Monday, April 19.
Given its low and sleek stance, it’s clearly not a crossover of any kind, and some sources abroad are speculating that there’s a new sedan in the works. While that seems like the most plausible option, we wouldn’t rule out a coupe.
Audi has already launched a flagship electric saloon called the e-tron GT, which is based on the Porsche Taycan, so any new four-door contender would need to slot beneath it. But there certainly is a gap for a midsize sedan in Audi’s e-tron line-up, and the company is surely looking at the sales figures of Tesla’s two saloons with some envy.
All will be revealed this coming Monday…
