The official reveal of the Tesla Roadster has sparked a lot of controversy and debate. Ferrari’s CEO think the new American EV sports car is an innovative design and deserves some praise…

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has shown great admiration for the new Tesla Roadster’s visual aesthetics. As reported by Italian magazine Quattroruote, Vigna told media during a video conference in India that the new American EV sports car earns full marks for its launch presentation and technological features. The upcoming Tesla Roadster features all-wheel drive delivering over 746 kW, accelerating from 0–97 km/h in under two seconds. It integrates optional cold-gas thrusters, and a removable glass roof in higher trim models.
Controversies surrounding the new Tesla Roadster
Scepticism surrounds the new Tesla Roadster due to repeated production delays extending back to its 2017 reveal. Critics view the new model’s extreme performance metrics, including sub-two-second acceleration and cold-gas thrusters, as unverified engineering claims. Fans of the brand have been praising Tesla for its presentation, but the jumping and flying antics portrayed by the flagship Rocket derivative left many uncertain about its authenticity.
Vigna specifically compares the Roadster’s reception to its own Luce EV, which has garnered a lot of negative sentiment from both media and the public. This is the brand’s first attempt at making a fully electric vehicle, prompting the decision to work with an external house for the design. Vigna says, “If we had worked on our own, we wouldn’t have done what we did. In other words, we tackled a whole series of questions and came up with some answers prompted by people who were observing us from the outside,”

The Luce’s changes Ferrari’s product direction
The Ferrari Luce is the brand’s first all-electric production model, featuring a quad-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain that produces over 770 kW. Designed as a five-door, five-seat liftback, it sits alongside the Purosangue as an ultra-luxury lifestyle vehicle rather than a traditional mid-engine sports car. Positioned at the pinnacle of Ferrari’s grand touring lineup, the Luce bridges high-performance EV technology with practical four-door versatility.

“It certainly shows that also in the automotive world there’s still a lot to be done. We have to keep dreaming,” Vigna adds. “As a European, thank you for showing us how that, even in an old world, you can still innovate and dare.”
