Aston Martin has confirmed its new DBX will employ a twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 when it is finally revealed in December 2019.
While the Mercedes-AMG-sourced eight-cylinder is already used in models such as the DB11 and the Vantage (where it offers 375 kW), the Gaydon-based firm has confirmed it will make more power in the DBX.
In the automaker’s first SUV, the twin-turbo V8 will be tuned to deliver 405 kW and 700 N.m. Aston says high-speed testing has already proven the DBX will “repeatedly exceed” 290 km/h, with its final top speed and acceleration figures still to be announced.
The British marque says the DBX will deliver cornering speeds “on par” with the Vantage, while achieving braking figures “greater than” the DBS Superleggera. The result during testing is “regular” sub-eight-minute times round the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
So, what will the V8 sound like? Well, Aston Martin has given us an idea in the video below, with the firm promising the soundtrack has been tuned to “reflect a deep bass with increasing mid-tones, creating true auditory exhilaration, particularly in more sporting drive modes”.
“We have concentrated our work to ensure that the calibration and tune of this 4,0-litre twin-turbo V8 delivers both the everyday usability and refinement expected by SUV owners,” said Matt Becker, Aston Martin’s chief engineer.
“However, we have also focused heavily on matching that with the engaging driving dynamics that are commanded by our brand and inherent in every Aston Martin and early indications of the car’s overall performance have been incredibly promising.
“The next few months will be extremely important to us, as we continue to hone the powertrain credentials and a dynamic setup that will help make this the most exciting SUV on the market,” he added.
