GWM has introduced plug-in hybrid power to its P300 lineup. We detail the P300 PHEV. See pricing below…

In September 2026, GWM introduced a (170 kW/620 N.m) 3.0-litre turbodiesel engine to its P500 flagship double-cab bakkie. Indeed, while myriad manufacturers are ditching oil-burners, especially those of the large-capacity variety, in favour of petrol and new-energy (NEV) propulsion, the Chinese automaker maintains diesel is not dead. However, in an interview with the Baoding brand’s Powertrain Director, Michele Scotti told us it is developing new diesel engines alongside NEV powertrains. Now, following the introduction of the P500 3.0TD, the firm has announced a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant of the P300.
2026 GWM P300 PHEV powertrain specifications
The latest member in GWM’s P300 lineup employs its maker’s Hi4-T powertrain. The PHEV setup pairs a 180 kW/380 N.m 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 130 kW/495 N.m electric motor — the latter housed within the dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) — for combined power and torque outputs of 310 kW and 750 N.m. This makes it one of the most powerful bakkies in SA. Power is delivered to the road via a part-time four-wheel-drive system featuring 2H, 4H, and 4L drivetrain settings.
2026 GWM P300 PHEV fuel consumption, electric range and charging time
GWM claims a combined average fuel consumption of 2.4 L/100 km. On a single, full charge, the new-energy double-cab bakkie’s 33.1 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack serves up a 115 km (NEDC) electric-only operating range, the company says. The LFP item supports DC fast charging of up to 110 kW. Plugged into the latter facility, GWM says a 30-80% charge takes “about” 18 minutes at “normal” temperatures. The battery also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L), which allows owners to use the vehicle as a mobile power source for a variety of appliances, including for camping and job site, at up to 6 kW when the double-cab bakkie is parked, or 4 kW when the vehicle is on the move.
2026 GWM P300 PHEV dimensions, ground clearance and towing capacity
The PHEV variant measures 5 416 mm in length and 1 947 mm in width, making it 23 mm shorter and 11 mm narrower than the 2.4-litre turbodiesel double-cab derivative. The newcomer stands 1 886 mm (down 7 mm) tall, with a 3 230 mm wheelbase. The PHEV sports a 200 mm ground clearance, and 26-degree approach and 23-degree departure angles — the latter reduced to 21 degrees with the fitment of a tow bar. The breakover angle is rated at 19 degrees. The PHEV offers a braked towing capacity of 3 500 kg.
2026 GWM P300 PHEV features and equipment
Stepping inside, the cabin plays host to such items as 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment, replete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone screen mirroring, a 50 W wireless smartphone charging tray, automatic climate control with rear air vents, and a sunroof. A 360-degree surround-view camera system is also present. The leather-upholstered front pews feature six- and four-way electric adjustability for the driver and front passenger, respectively. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep assist, to name but a few standard-fitment ADAS items.
