Sporting a self-charging hybrid powertrain, Honda has introduced the CR-V e:HEV to South Africa. See local pricing and specs below…

The Honda CR-V e:HEV has touched down on South African shores, with the self-charging hybrid (HEV) variant priced less than the outgoing 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol model. We highlight the new derivative’s powertrain, fuel consumption, features, and pricing.
Powertrain, specifications and fuel consumption
The CR-V e:HEV pairs a direct-injection Atkinson-cycle 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 106 kW and 189 N.m of torque, with two electric motors — a generator motor connected to the internal combustion engine (ICE) and a traction motor incorporated into the driveshaft. The HEV arrangement produces a combined system output of 135 kW and 335 N.m, delivered to road via an all-wheel-drive system paired with an electronic continuously variable transmission (e:CVT). Compared to the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol model, the new-energy variant is 5 kW less powerful. However, the e:HEV derivative is 95 N.m torquier than the ICE-only CR-V.
The Japanese automaker claims the HEV setup returns a combined average fuel consumption of 5.7 L/100 km. Matching the firm’s figure translates to a driving range of 1 000 km from a full, 57-litre tank of fuel. For reference, the ICE-only, front-wheel-drive derivative returns a claimed 7.4 L/100 km, with a driving range of 770 km.
The petrol-electric powertrain offers a trio of driving modes. The latter includes EV, Hybrid, and Engine — all of which activated automatically depending on battery charge, speed, and load.
The e:HEV retains a MacPherson strut front/multilink rear suspension setup. The e:HEV AWD offers a ground clearance of 208 mm, an increase of 10 mm over the FWD ICE model.
Features, technology and safety
Available in RS trim grade, the CR-V e:HEV is equipped with such niceties as a head-up display, 10.2-inch digital instrumentation, and 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment. USB-C ports and a wireless smartphone charging tray are also included. A panoramic sunroof is also present. The e:HEV features a five-seat layout.
In terms of safety, the e:HEV is equipped with eight airbags and Isofix child-seat anchorages. Honda’s SENSING driver assistance suite is also present. The latter setup includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane departure mitigation, and collision mitigation braking.
Honda CR-V e:HEV price, warranty and service plan
The CR-V e:HEV AWD RS is priced from R949 900, making it R91 400 less expensive than the outgoing ICE-only FWD derivative. Included with the package as standard are a five-year/200 000 km vehicle warranty, eight-year/200 000 km warranty for the hybrid system, and a five-year/90 000 km service plan.
