Highly anticipated news on the Maserati Grecale and Ferrari Purosangue have been dominating news but Alfa Romeo have quietly been refreshing their original SUV. The Estremo Alfa Romeo Stelvio has been spotted and the mid-cycle update has given the Italian model a mild facelift.
The newly revealed Tonale model is likely going to win some market share in the ever growing compact crossover segment but the Italian automaker has not neglected its novel SUV creation; the Stelvio. The model, which has been in production for just under half a dozen years, still boasts an attractive exterior design that has aged gracefully during its moderately successful production run.

Prototypes of the facelifted model were spotted by Walter Vayr aboard a trailer in Italy along with its Giorgio-based Giulia sibling and an uncamouflaged Maserati Grecale. Although some tape coverings make it difficult to determine exactly what has been updated on the test mule, keen observations will determine that the headlights and lower grilles are subtly different.
The rear end seems much the same as before but the models adorned in a red paint job and paired with black wheels have a badge on their front fender demonstrating the word “Estremo” or Extreme in English. The Estremo Alfa Romeo edition seems closer aligned to the Veloce than the range topping Ferrari V6 derived Quadrifoglio models and can expectedly receive the same powertrain choices too, although this is speculation and the Q4 badge on the bootlid of the model.
No shots of the interior are available but the Stelvio and Giulia could expectedly ditch the analog driver dials for the same digital instrument cluster that has been used in the smaller Tonale.
A third crossover, tentatively called the Brennero, will join the Alfa Romeo portfolio in 2024 and the brand will cease selling ICE-powered cars by 2027 so this may be as good an opportunity as ever to become an owner of a practical Alfa Romeo that still has fossil-fuel powered passion propelling it forward.
