In 2021, Ford unwrapped the Maverick, a Blue Oval-badged compact double cab sporting unibody construction. Now, the company has handed the Maverick fresh aesthetics, inside and out, upgraded tech, and is offering the petrol-electric variant with all-wheel drive. From the outside, the most significant cosmetic enhancement comes in the shape of a refreshed front end, which features new headlamp clusters, replete with daytime-running lights. Updated front grilles, each specific to the quartet of derivatives available, are also present.

Stepping inside, the most notable upgrade the US brand has made to the interior is the fitment of a 13.2-inch infotainment display, which replaces the pre-facelifted model’s 8.0-inch item. Incorporating the firm’s familiar SYNC 4 software, the touch-enabled item features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring, voice recognition and sat-nav. A built-in 5G modem is also present. Sited fore the multifunction tiller, an 8.0-inch digital instrument binnacle relays information to the driver. A 360-degree surround-view camera setup is included (depending on the model, that is). Speaking of models, the Maverick is available with the choice of four trim grades. This includes XL, XLT, Lariat, and Tremor.

A duo of engine options is on offer, a 2.0-litre EcoBoost motor and a 2.5-litre hybrid, the latter of which is available with all-wheel drive as an option (as standard, both engines send power and torque to front axle). The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit, which is coupled with an eight-speed transmission, produces 177 kW and 373 N.m of torque. The e-CVT-equipped petrol-electric arrangement churns out 142 kW and 210 N.m.

It is worth noting that the left-hand drive Blue Oval bakkie is produced at the Ford Hermosillo plant in Mexico for the American market. Based on its location and driving position, it is also worth adding that it wouldn’t be offered locally.
