Jaguar has officially revealed the Type 01, an all-electric four-door GT signalling a new era for the British marque.

The Jaguar Type 01’s powertrain comprises three electric motors — a single unit sited at the front and two at the rear — producing combined power and torque outputs of 757 kW and 1 365 N.m. Power is delivered to the road via all four corners. Jaguar claims the Type 01 leaps to the 100 km/h marker from a standstill in 3.2 seconds.
The 850 V electric architecture incorporates an 118 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack, which serves up a WLTP operating range of up to 720 km (when fitted with 21-inch alloy wheels). The NMC item supports DC fast charging of up to 350 kW. According to Jaguar, a 13-minute charge at the maximum charging rate adds 321 km of range, while a 22-minute charge replenishes the battery from 10-80% in 22 minutes. In addition, the battery can reconfigure internally to accept a lower voltage — 400 V — without a heavy external transformer. In this application, the maximum charging rate is 250 kW.
The monolithic bodywork measures 5 235 mm long, with a 50:50 weight distribution. Available with the choice of either 21- or 23-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tyres, the Type 01 stands 1 403 mm tall. In the air suspension setup’s default setting, 120 mm of ground clearance is available. The wheelbase spans 3 200 mm. With a drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd, the four-door EV is Jaguar’s most aerodynamic vehicle to date. The Coventry carmaker claims a 450-litre boot capacity.
Stepping inside, the minimalistic cabin plays host to 24-inch digital instrumentation, supplemented by a portrait-oriented, 7.0-inch touchscreen sited on the spine running between the driver and front passenger at the base of the facia. The latter smaller display is used for operating climate control, heating and ventilation for the seats, heating for the steering wheel, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone screen mirroring. A wireless smartphone charging tray is also present. The main sound system comes in the shape of a 13-speaker Meridian sound bar sited at the base of the windscreen. Given that there is no rear windscreen, a traditional rear-view mirror makes way for the firm’s camera-based ClearSight item, integrated into the sound bar. Elevating interior ambience, a panoramic sunroof is standard fitment.
The Type 01 will be priced from ÂŁ129 950, which translates to R2 854 359.55 at the current Rand-Pound exchange rate, for the “standard” variant, with the Design Vision priced from ÂŁ144 950, or R3 183 638.32. However, with a selection of personalisation options available, customer examples will likely cost more than the indicated pricing.
