The new Kia Sorento has finally been officially revealed ahead of its debut at the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show in early March.
Of course, the Korean firm had earlier released a handful of teaser images, giving us a look at both the inside and outside of the latest version of the Sorento (some spy images made their way online, too), which runs on an all-new platform.
Kia says its designers “sought to maintain the robust, tough-looking aesthetic of earlier generations” while applying a “greater degree of refinement and elegance”. The result is a Sorento that’s “noticeably more sculpted” than its more round-edged predecessor. Indeed, the brand says the Sorento features a “more confident, more mature and more desirable design than ever”.
The new “tiger nose” grille now wraps round the integrated headlamps, with the latter debuting fresh “tiger eye” LED daytime running lights. In profile, Kia says the proportions of the Sorento were “subtly adapted to make it appear longer”, with shorter front and rear overhangs, and more space between its axles.
Interestingly, the bonnet is also longer than before, drawing the A-pillar some 30 mm further back from the front axle.
As we saw with the aforementioned teaser sketches, the new Sorento’s cabin is dominated by a dual-screen arrangement similar in configuration to Mercedes-Benz’s widescreen cockpit offering. The new Sorento also ditches the traditional gearlever in favour of a dial, as employed by certain Jaguar Land Rover products.
Expect more technical details (including exact overall dimensions and engine details) to be released when the newcomer makes its first public appearance in Geneva. Last we heard from Kia Motors South Africa, the new Sorento was expected to debut locally in the final quarter of 2020…
