The latest MHEV additions to the Hilux range are exclusive to the diesel double cab subspecies and employ the venerable 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine as the cornerstone of the powertrain. The diesel four-pot will be accompanied by a 48-volt hybrid system, which includes a small electric motor generator. The MHEV model will likely feature a stop/start system and benefit the double cab bakkie by improving driveability, and fuel economy. Furthermore, the 48-volt system is claimed to improve the Hilux’s off-road and on-road performance. The MHEV will not sacrifice any of its capabilities, such as its tow capacity despite the addition of the hybrid technology.
“We are continually striving to reduce the fuel consumption of our vehicles to help reduce on-going costs for customers, as well as helping reduce our environmental impact, and the addition of 48-Volt Technology to our biggest-selling vehicle line will contribute to this” – Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia’s Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Franchise Operations.
We will continue to provide updates and information regarding the new MHEV models that will join the local Hilux lot.
