A new report suggests that the next-generation Toyota Corolla will be put together at a renovated Chinese production facility for global export…

The next-generation Toyota Corolla recently debuted as a sleek fastback sedan concept. Initial reports suggested a pure electric focus. However, new insights from Japan indicate Toyota will offer multiple powertrains instead.
According to an insider cited by Nikkei Asia, the upcoming Toyota Corolla will feature four distinct options. Buyers can choose between a standard petrol engine, a self-charging hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, and a full electric setup.
Toyota sticks to its multi-pathway strategy

This strategy aligns with Toyota’s long-standing multi-pathway approach. The decision provided a strong financial advantage as the initial electric vehicle boom slowed. Many competitor brands invested heavily in rapid electric conversion due to strict European Union emissions rules. Toyota embraced electrification while continuing to develop alternative energy sources, including hydrogen.
The report confirms Toyota will manufacture its next-generation Corolla range at a new Chinese facility. The brand plans to reveal the final production model in 2027, followed by a global market rollout in early 2028. Production will also take place at plants in Japan and the United States.
Toyota currently operates three parts plants in China. It also builds regional models through joint ventures with FAW and GAC. However, the new Corolla marks one of Toyota’s first Chinese-built vehicles designated for global export.
The next-generation Toyota Corolla goes full futurism

The new model departs sharply from the nameplate’s traditionally conservative style. First shown at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, the concept features sharp body lines, a low roofline, a steeply angled windscreen, wide LED rear lights, and 21-inch alloy wheels.
Underneath, the new Corolla uses a flexible platform designed to accommodate various powertrains. The current model uses the TNGA-C architecture and only offers petrol and hybrid options. A four-way powertrain lineup will mark a major first for the brand.
