Ford’s new Bronco Sport didn’t enjoy quite as rapturous a reception as the ladder-frame Bronco but that hasn’t stopped a digital designer from transforming it into a double-cab bakkie.

This rendering from KDesign shows what the new unibody (Kuga-based) Bronco Sport would look like were it to be fitted with a load bed.

Like the actual SUV, one would expect the bakkie version to draw its urge from either Ford’s turbocharged 2,0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine (with 183 kW and 373 N.m) or the turbocharged 1,5-litre EcoBoost petrol unit (offering 135 kW and 258 N.m).

While the chances of a Bronco Sport bakkie becoming a reality seem small, it’s worth keeping in mind the Blue Oval brand is working on a small, likewise unibody pickup expected to wear the Maverick badge. Indeed, a report from late in April 2020 suggested the new bakkie would be offered with the same powertrains as the Bronco Sport…
