With rumors suggesting that Toyota might enter the Luxury SUV segment soon, a virtual artist known as Theottle envisions a modern SUV boasting the prestigious Century badge.
Toyota has been very conservative with the Century brand, the sedan has only received two overhauls in a nearly 60-year production run. The last one came in 2018 and now Toyota is planning to develop an SUV version of the Century. The SUV will most likely be a luxurious model, following in the footsteps of its esteemed forefathers. Looking at the renders by Theottle, the Century SUV looks like a high-riding Toyota Crown with a boxy shape resembling a Rolls Royce Cullinan.

Bentley offers the Bentayga SUV in short and stretched forms, Mercedes has launched the GLS as a high-riding successor of the S-Class, and a more luxurious Maybach version is also offered. BMW’s X7 resides in the same space and the big new Range Rover has again pushed the idea of luxury SUV into new territory. This could be Toyota’s way of entering the luxury SUV segment.
Luxury SUVs are designed with power and performance in mind, and they offer a smooth and responsive driving experience. The expected SUV could be a bit longer if not the same size as the JP300 Land Cruiser, it could also get Toyota’s new Hybrid Max Powertrain that’s also found in the Crown pairing front and rear electric motors with a four-cylinder 2,5-litre engine producing at least 253 kW.
Luxury SUVs are renowned for their high-end comfort features, which can include everything from premium leather seating to heated and ventilated front seats. If Toyota plans to enter the Luxury SUV segment, they have no option but to produce a top-quality cabin with cutting-edge technology that allows the whole vehicle to be ranked amongst the usual luxury brands. Toyota’s plans to create a top-end SUV are still under development, rumour has it that the Century SUV is expected to replace the Century sedan as the company’s flagship model.
