RM Sothebys has announced that in December, the infamous 1990 25th anniversary Lamborghini Countach, featured in the Wolf of Wall Street, will be auctioned on Wall Street. The 2013 film depicts the rise and fall of Jordan Belfort. Played by Leonardo DiCaprio, the eccentric stock broker flaunts his wealth throughout the movie, but it’s his 1990 25th anniversary Lamborghini Countach that has arguably characterised the American’s opulent lifestyle.

In the film, the Countach’s iconic scene depicts a very intoxicated Belfort crawling to the 80’s raging bull and using his foot to open the door. After struggling and screaming, the befuddled broker makes his way home and, soon after, rams into parked cars, a few street signs and a golf cart. Once at home, he is shortly apprehended and carried out of his house, only to be bewildered by the sight of his wrecked Lamborghini, which he thought was still in mint condition.
The movie used two white-on-white 25th-anniversary edition Countachs for the film. The destroyed unit was one of 23 examples that had white paint and a white leather interior and supposedly had somewhere around 11 000km on its odo. Its twin, the model that will be auctioned later this year, is powered by a 5,2-litre V12, and when it debuted, produced roughly 335 kW. In the nearly two-decade-long production, the 25th-anniversary model is the most high-strung and competent iteration of the nameplate of which only 657 units were ever made.
