Recently, senior members of the Audi product management team hinted that RS models will be electrified in the near future. Now, the brand has lifted the wraps off its latest fully electric vehicle in the form of a functional e-tron Vision Gran Turismo.
The all-electric e-tron Vision Gran Turismo concept, originally developed solely for virtual races on PlayStation 4′, is set to make its first appearance later this month, where it will be deployed as a Formula E race taxi. From April 14th, customers and guests of Audi will be able to experience the Formula E city-based circuits as passengers in this one-of-a-kind electric vehicle developed and produced at Audi’s pre-production centre within the space of just eleven months.
Peter Mertens, member of the board of management for Audi’s technical development, states that when designing the car for the game, their aim was to eventually build a fully functional car. “The Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo shows that electric mobility at Audi is very emotive. This car incorporates numerous elements of our new design language, such as the inverted single-frame grille in the vehicle’s colour that will be typical for our new e-tron models.”
The Vision Gran Turismo features permanent all-wheel drive with variable power distribution; a system comprising three electric motors, each producing 200 kW. Two electric motors drive the rear axle and the third one the front axle. With a combined system output of 600 kW, a curb weight of 1 450 kg and 50:50 weight distribution, Audi claims that the e-tron Vision Gran Turismo will complete the 0 to 100 km/h dash in less than 2,5 seconds.
