It may not have won Michael Schumacher his first title with The Prancing Horse but the 1998 Ferrari F300 F1 car is a title-battle race winner and it is now being sold for a pretty penny.
The carbon fibre equipped V10 generation trumps all others in the era that provided the greatest and purest racing for viewers of top tier form of motorsport. The sonorous V10 Italian powered racecar can now be purchased as duPont Registry is now selling the 1998 Ferrari F300 F1 car for $4.9M.
Not only does it come with racing pedigree with one of the greatest drivers to conquer the sport, but Michael Schumacher also managed to pilot the scarlet red single seater to victory on half a dozen occasions throughout the 1998 season.
This specific F300 was driven by the German in the 1998 Luxemburg Grand Prix at the Nurburgring but finished second to Mika Häkkinen despite starting on pole position. The Finn would also go on to win his maiden Formula 1 title after battling Schumacher and his Ferrari throughout the season.
While details on this specific car aren’t provided, when it was raced throughout the season the 047D 3-litre V10 engine could push out almost 600 kW redlining over 17,000 rpm which provided audible satisfaction to anybody within earshot of the screamer.
While it may not have won Schumacher his record titles with the Scuderia, the 1998 Ferrari F300 was the underlying basis to his subsequent victories for The Prancing Horse in the early 2000s until the 2.4-litre V8 era commenced in 2006 and ushered in new champions and title challengers.
Fortunately, this F300 comes with four wheels unlike the peculiar accident in Spa that saw Schumacher collide with David Coulthard and return to the pits on three wheels. Closer to the modern era, Ferrari looks set to challenge for the title once more in 2022 with pundits labelling the F1-75 as a favorite for the season.
