A team that managed a few surprise performances throughout the 2021 season is that of Alpine. After a shock win at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the racing outfit looks to better their P5 in the constructors’ championship with the Alpine A522.
Pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is only two days away and French outfit Alpine is one of the last to reveal the highly anticipated 2022-spec Formula 1 challengers. Driven for the second season by veteran World Champion Fernando Alonso and 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix race winner Esteban Ocon, the team hopes to improve their P5 finish after positive results in last year’s campaign.
One of the surprise outcomes of the past season was Frenchman Esteban Ocon snatching victory unexpectedly at the Hungarian Grand Prix while Alonso proved that his age is just a number after an impressive podium at the Qatar race.
While the drivers lineup is proven in the machinery and will stay the same, management changes over the winter have seen French racing icon and four-time world champion Alain Prost depart alongside Executive Director Marcin Budkowski.
The team is also expected to be donned in a pink livery after acquiring BWT as a main title sponsor, of course the blue swatch from the French automaker will likely dominate the Alpine A522. This all comes after speculation that Otmar Szafnauer would join the team and bring the Austrian water treatment company onboard. The hearsay was true after the prominent figure in the F1 paddock was named team principal of the newly named BWT Alpine F1 Team before the weekend after leaving Aston Martin.
