Volkswagen’s new Polo is now available with IQ.DRIVE, VW’s suite of driver assistance systems, and to celebrate this fact, the Wolfsburg brand has launched the world’s first advert featuring NFTs.
Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) are a big thing at the moment, and it would seem as though vehicle manufacturers are rather keen to hop in this bandwagon too. Not too long ago, Lamborghini announced their NFT, too.
Bridget Harpur, Head of Marketing for the Volkswagen Passenger Car Brand said, “Our new Polo NFT campaign and Mzansiverse commercial is testament to Volkswagen’s eye on the future, not only in the innovation of our vehicles but in embracing the passions of our fans and driving evolution in how we engage with them.”
The commercial portrays the new Polo making its way through a futuristic and gamified version of Mzansi, or what they are calling the Mzansiverse. To celebrate the arrival of the new Polo with IQ.DRIVE, five unique NFTs have been created and dropped into the advert to essentially gamify the experience.
For the past five days, Polo fans have been able to hunt for the hidden NFTs in the commercial and stand a chance to win one of 100 NFTs. IN addition, three rare Golden NFTs offer awards such as a PlayStation 5 and Volkswagen Advanced Driving and GetSmarter courses.
In keeping with Volkswagen’s commitment to ‘Drive Local, Support Local’ the entire commercial and the team behind it has been local, too, with VW’s creative partners Ogilvy Cape Town and local production company Patriot Films having conceptualised and put together the innovative campaign. The animation and CGI development was carried out by South African company, Polycat, and the commercial’s soundtrack was created for the ad by local musicians, Field, featuring local songstress, Moonchild Sanelly, with sound design created by local studio, Resonate.
