How does a quarter mile in a Veyron-busting 9,34 seconds grab you? It’ll probably grab your attention a whole lot more once you realise the machine capable of that achievement is nothing more than a ’80s VW Golf Mk2… OK, so the owner has done plenty of work on this car, including using a 1,8-litre LZ diesel block modified to drink E85 fuel, fitting a billet steel crank shaft, Pauter connecting rods, forged pistons and a 16-valve cylinder head. A Garrett GTX420R turbocharger apparently ups the power to around 670 kW! As you’ll see on the videos, this Golf has no trouble putting the power down, mostly due to the fact that it runs 4Motion all-wheel drive, too.
Here’s another figure for you – how about 0-100 km/h in 2,7 sec?
