Set to join the German marque’s new iX3 lineup in 2027, BMW has whipped the wraps off the iX3 M60 xDrive, with the M Performance model boasting 450 kW and up to 777 km electric range.

BMW is turning up the wick on the new iX3, which we’ve sampled in 50 xDrive format in Cape Town, with the M60 xDrive. Scheduled to join the iX3 lineup in 2027, the M Performance model ushers in more power and torque, and a selection of upgrades contributing to a “dynamically potent” driving experience.
Similar to the iX4 M60 xDrive, which was revealed alongside the iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive, the apex iX3’s dual electric-motor powertrain produces a combined power output of 450 kW, with 850 N.m delivered to all four corners via a single-speed automatic transmission. The German marque says these outputs allow the performance-focused iX3 to complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.9 seconds, before topping out at an electronically governed 240 km/h top speed.
The M60 xDrive’s front and rear electric motors are coupled with a 108.7 kWh (net) lithium-ion battery pack, which serves up a WLTP operating range of up to 754 km on a single, full charge. This model’s iX4 sibling offers slightly more range, at 777 km. BMW claims an average energy consumption of 20.5-17.6 kWh/100 km. The battery pack supports DC fast charging of up to 400 kW.
The M60 xDrive is distinguished from its stablemates via the fitment of several M-specific exterior and interior elements. BMW’s Iconic Glow lighting arrangement and M Sport package are included as standard. Customers have the option of specifying M Yellow daytime-running lights – a nod to the Bavarian brand’s racing cars – at additional cost. The M Performance model rolls on 21-inch alloy wheels, with 22-inch items available as an option. Other exterior touches include M side mirror housings, black rear diffuser, and roof-mounted rear spoiler.
Inside, the M60 xDrive features BMW’s latest iDrive interface, which, here, features M-specific graphics and and displays performance-related information. An M Sport steering wheel, replete with 12 0’clock marker, is also present. The cabin further plays host to touchscreen infotainment and a 430 W Harman Kardon sound system with 13 speakers. M Sport seats, optionally available with 10-way electric adjustment, are also included. The interior is trimmed in Veganza (synthetic leather) and M PerformTex upholstery.
BMW South Africa has yet to confirm whether the iX3 M60 xDrive will be introduced to our market.
