Alfa Romeo has applied some key refinements to its volume-selling SUVs, the Junior and Tonale. Updates have been made to the features list and interior quality…

Alfa Romeo has announced key refinements and specification updates for the 2027 Junior and Tonale models. These two vehicles act as the Italian marque’s core global volume sellers, as the manufacturer re-strategises towards a balanced lineup that offers consumers more specification and drivetrain choices. The Junior serves as the brand’s primary volume driver globally. The firm’s newcomer secured the majority of registrations in 2026, accounting for over 75% of sales in core European markets. Conversely, demand for the Tonale has declined since its initial launch phase, with Stellantis confirming lower registration figures, despite this model remaining the second best-selling vehicle in the Alfa Romeo portfolio.
Alfa Romeo adds more flair to the 2027 Junior range

Alfa Romeo has updated the Junior range by enhancing interior quality with more refined materials, expanding wheel options, and offering a wider variety of specs across five trims: Junior, Sprint, Ti, Veloce, and the Edizione Luna Rossa special series. Standard interior revisions include new dashboard finishes, soft-touch door panels, and contrast stitching. The Sprint variant adopts advanced driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring. Ti grade introduces a gloss black body kit, ambient lighting, and heated front seats with massage functionality. The Veloce features a 207 kW electric powertrain. The latter, flagship model also benefits from lowered suspension, an Alcon braking system, a Torsen self-locking differential, and 20-inch wheels. Powertrain options span front-wheel-drive hybrid, Q4 all-wheel-drive hybrid, and fully electric Elettrica configurations. Alfa Romeo complements these options with seven wheel designs ranging from 17 to 20 inches and seven exterior colour options. Currently, South African customers have access to only the base Elettrica and Elettrica Veloce, with pricing starting at R819 900.
Variety is the Alfa Romeo Tonale’s theme for 2027

The updated Tonale now comprises the Tonale, Sprint, Ti, Veloce, and Edizione Luna Rossa variants. Customers can choose from ten exterior colours, five interior upholstery options, and seven wheel designs – the latter ranging from 17 to 20 inches. Entry-level models include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch Alfa Connect infotainment system, and full LED headlamps. The Sprint adds a gloss black body kit, 18-inch wheels, and ambient lighting.
The Ti adopts leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated front seats. The Veloce features matrix LED headlamps, 19-inch wheels, Brembo brake callipers, and Dual Stage Valve electronic suspension. The latter model also gains Alcantara trim for the interior.
The Edizione Luna Rossa flagship introduces sailing-inspired 3D knit seats, Dark Miron exterior accents, and 20-inch gloss black wheels. Powertrain choices remain multi-energy, comprising a 1.5-litre hybrid, a 1.6-litre diesel, and a Q4 plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive. The South African lineup currently comprises only the Ti and Veloce variants in hybrid guise, with local pricing starting at R811 899.
Alfa Romeo has yet to confirm the introduction of the revised Junior and Tonale into the South African market.
