Limited to just 50 examples per year, RTR’s latest modified Ford Mustang, the Spec 5, is endowed with a supercharged V8 producing 648 kW.

RTR Vehicles has revealed what it bills the ‘ultimate’ Ford Mustang. Dubbed the Spec 5, this model builds on the formula of previous RTR-tuned Mustangs, while gaining a selection of performance-focused upgrades. Only 50 examples of the Spec 5 will be built per year.
Based on the seventh-generation (S650) Ford Mustang GT, the Spec 5 is available with a variety of exterior paint options, with premium colours priced between $7 500-15 000 (approximately R124 000-R250 000 at the current Rand-Dollar exchange rate). The Spec 5’s composite body kit includes a new front splitter, functional air vents, and a ‘ducktail’-style rear spoiler. This modified Mustang’s suspension features RTR’s Tactical Performance system, which comprises 30-way adjustable front coilovers as well as adjustable fore and aft sway bars. The Spec 5 is equipped with a set of 20-inch forged alloy wheels, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres. A Borla Cat-Back Active Exhaust System is also present.
Powering the Spec 5 is a modified version of the Blue Oval brand’s familiar 5.0-litre V8. Supercharged in Spec 5 application, the Coyote unit produces 648 kW and 894 N.m of torque – increases of 320 kW and 354 N.m over the standard South African-spec Mustang GT, which we evaluated for a road test in 2025. Power is exclusively delivered to the road via a rear-wheel drivetrain, coupled with the choice of either a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission.
So, how much does the RTR Spec 5 cost? Well, pricing starts from $169 000, which translates to around R2.8 million. As a reminder, the standard Mustang GT is priced from R1 350 000 locally.
