Volvo and Nvidia introduce new AI systems to advance the Swedish brand’s already comprehensive safety systems. The new move solidifies Volvo’s position in future technologies in passenger cars…

Volvo Cars and Nvidia have announced an expansion of a strategic partnership. The new venture adds advanced safety levels in automated driving technology for future vehicles. The partnership builds on a collaboration that started in 2017, combining automotive engineering with artificial intelligence (AI) to improve vehicle safety.
The AI-based technology will debut in an upcoming next-generation Volvo model line. This forms part of the Swedish brand’s largest product push in history. Under this alliance, Volvo Cars plans to blend its safety systems and engineering capabilities with Nvidia’s AI infrastructure. The integration incorporates the tech company’s Hyperion sensor and compute architecture, Halos OS, and the Alpamayo Stack driving software.
Together, both companies aim to raise standards for AI-enabled automotive safety while providing a seamless driving experience. The venture paves the path for a gradual rollout of eyes- and mind-off automated driving features. Volvo Cars applies nearly a century of real-world safety research and human-centric design to this project, striving to set a trusted industry benchmark for convenient automated transportation.
How AI will improve Volvo’s class-leading safety standards

Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO of Volvo Cars, emphasised the value of the carmaker’s alliance with Nvidia. He noted that the Swedish marque has been synonymous with vehicle safety for nearly a century. Joining forces with Nvidia means that the company merges its deep safety expertise with world-class AI technology. This direction creates an opportunity to build safer and more appealing vehicles for drivers globally.
Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, highlighted the role of modern computing in mobility. He stated that accelerated computing has transformed vehicles into intelligent systems capable of understanding their surroundings. Huang pointed out that combining Volvo’s safety engineering with Hyperion and Halos hardware platforms will deliver a new generation of vehicles designed to make driving safer and more effortless.
Volvo and Nvidia’s 10-year-old partnership

Volvo and Nvidia’s announcement strengthens the history between both tech and automotive brands. Since 2017, the companies have collaborated closely on core central computing systems. Previous joint innovations include deploying the high-performance Nvidia DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip architecture inside flagship electric models such as the EX90 SUV and the ES90 sedan. These systems process massive sensor data streams from lidars, radars, and cameras in real time to power active driver-assistance systems.
